Poems in honour of Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum
The Sun of Ages Past
Now came the sinking,
Of the sun of ages past.
Into the depth of flames,
Burning red, a ball of fire.
A lone wolf howled,
As if forsaken by the night.
Then followed a dreadful silence,
Where fear stretched seconds into centuries.
Reluctant time,
Afraid of the duel.
Between itself and the formidable,
Sheikh Maktoum, first among heroes.
In all his kinsmen's triumphs,
He has a share His virtuous intentions.
Deep-rooted as the mountains,
Supreme in rank and beneficence.
The people follow his lead,
His generosity aids the needy,
Flows to right and left,
His name shines forth with the nobility of his ancestors and alliances.
All people of good deeds,
Maktoum, so protective that those close.
Love him with unswerving loyalty,
Maktoum, so fearsome that his foes.
Are driven mad with terror Maktoum, a true Arab,
From a house of honour and prestige.
The succession of nights astonishes,
A thousand years have passed.
In those still to come,
Your excellence will never diminish.
Time fears your presence,
But the people come to you from near and far.
The doors of your house stand wide open,
For your charity has no parallel.
For good reason is trust placed in you,
You rule with a justice ideal.
Your name is so dear to my heart,
And encircles my head like a crown.
